How Biking Has Helped My Mental State of Mind
As a child, I loved to bike. I would bike back and forth on our driveway and eventually venture out out in our neighborhood. Little did I know, decades later I would still bike, this time to my old neighborhood while appreciating nature.
Several years ago, I did fear biking. When I was biking on a busy road, a car tried to knock me over while making some racial comments. At that time, I was over it, and scared to bike alone. Then, my bike was stolen. Thanks to Covid, my passion for outdoor biking re-ignited. Timing has been perfect because as a caregiver, I have been struggling dealing with stress and balancing it all.
Just last week, I finally ventured out for a short 6.75 mile bike ride early morning before work. All day I had not only a lot of energy, but also a smile on my face because I felt like I accomplished something that I was putting off. Internally, I was scolding myself why did it take me forever to do it, but I realize it is never too late.
Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, I encourage you to adopt an activity that makes you happy. Time is always an issue for us, so seize the moment now. In conclusion, I want to share some healthy reasons, how I am benefiting from biking.
It drastically improves my mood.
It is helping me sleep better.
Contributing to helping me maintain a healthy lifestyle.
It has reduces my anxiety as a caregiver.
I have a better appreciation for nature, and the small things.
This week, my goal is to ride four times a week, and report back to you next week!
